Copyright is busted, according to Joel Johnson (Gizmodo) of the Music Licensing for Emerging Media panel at SxSW. This was the overall theme of the panel session. According to the panel the copyright laws have not been modified by the music industry to make up for the change in broadcast media.

A Rated “R” Panel with Five Directors of Horror
The panel, Directing the Dead: Genre Directors Spill Their Guts, was 5 directors with great success in the film genre of horror. All of the directors talked very candidly about making their films (and approaching new ones) for an hour and a half about making their films. While each director had a different way of approaching their film, they all shared one thing in common…a passion for blood and guts.
A Kick-Ass (the movie) After Hours with McLovin
I headed in the VIP and waited for something else unbelievable to happen. With my luck still running strong, wouldn’t you know it, there is Chris Mitz-Plasse (Red Mist in Kick-Ass and also McLovin from Superbad) walking my way.

So the last minute decision to drive (opposed to walking) over the Paramount Theater for the premier of the movie Kick-Ass, proved to be a great one. Arriving with a line wrapped around an Austin city block, there was no way I should have gotten in. Fortunately, walking up to the front of the theater at exactly the same as the director Matthew Vaughn and stars of the film Chris Mintz-Plasse (McLovin from Superbad) and Aaron Johnson, unlocked a piece of that SxSW luck you just can not plan.
